KF Wind completes survey for first phase of Ulsan floating wind project

This covers 375 MW of installed capacity.

Developers Ocean Winds and Mainstream Renewable Power have announced the completion of the geotechnical survey for the first phase of the 1,125-megawatt (MW) KF Wind, a floating offshore wind project being built off the coast of Ulsan.

In a statement, Ocean Winds said the first phase is called East Blue Power that corresponds to 375 MW of the total capacity.

The survey was carried out for approximately one month by Geo Mariner, a specialised geotechnical survey vessel. Data gathered will provide information for the placement of wind turbines, the design of floating foundations and the offshore substation, and the routing of submarine cables.

“Thanks to our dedicated teams, we have gathered critical information to ensure a viable and secure development in terms of technical, environmental, and safety aspects,” said KF Wind’s project director Austin Park.

The KF Wind and East Blue Power have recently secured the environmental impact assessment approval from the Ministry of Environment for the totality of the two-phase project.
