The upgrade will start in 2027.
Kyushu Electric Power Co. has announced that the steam turbines at its Genkai-3 and -4 Nuclear Power Plants will be replaced, pending the approval of new design and work plans by authorities.
According to the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum, the company has submitted applications to the Nuclear Regulation Authority and is waiting for approval.
The upgrades at Unit 3 will run from April 2027 to March 2028 and at Unit 4 from April 2028 to March 2029. Kyushu Electric said that the replacements would “improve reliability and generation efficiency.”
