New South Wales OKs EnergyAustralia’s $1b battery project
Over 200,000 homes will benefit from this.
New South Wales has approved the $1b Mt Piper battery energy storage system, one of the biggest in Australia that will store excess energy from the electricity grid during non-peak periods.
The project being developed by EnergyAustralia will use the company’s existing electricity infrastructure near Lithgow. It will store up to 500 megawatts / 2,000 megawatt-hours of electricity to power over 200,000 homes when there is high demand.
Over 170 jobs will be created during construction, with EnergyAustralia to invest up to $2m into the Lithgow City LGA through a Voluntary Planning Agreement.
