ACWA, PT PLN ink MoU for battery, green hydrogen dev’t in Indonesia

Saudi Arabia-based ACWA Power and Indonesia’s state-owned electricity provider PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) signed a memorandum of understanding to develop green hydrogen and battery storage for renewables in Indonesia.

Under the MoU, the parties will study avenues for partnership including a pump storage project for 600 to 800 megawatts of hydroelectricity facility, four gigawatts (GW) of battery energy storage, and the development of a green hydrogen/ammonia facility backed by hydroelectricity.

ACWA Power noted that Indonesia targets to have 23% of its power generated from renewable resources by 2025.

The company set its footprint in Indonesia in October following the two contracts for floating solar plants awarded by PLN.

PLN owns or operates nearly two-thirds of Indonesia’s power generation industry at around 65.5GW as of 2021.
