India allocates power from NTPC's Rammam-III HEP

India's Ministry of Power has allocated power from the 120 MW Rammam Stage-III hydro electric project of NTPC in West Bengal.

A lion's share of the total installed capacity of 87.6 MW or 73 per cent has been allocated to the state of West Bengal. While the state of Sikkim will be supplied 14.4 MW of power free of cost, the rest 18 MW falls under the unallocated quota.

The above allocation will further be subject to the Power Purchase Agreement entered into by NTPC Limited with the State Power Utility of the Government of West Bengal for sale and purchase of power equivalent to 105.6 MW, keeping in view the existing agreement between the Government of West Bengal and the Government of Sikkim, by which 12% of free power from the project equivalent to 14.4 MW is to be supplied to Sikkim.

The Rammam Stage-III hydroelectric project is envisaged as a run of the river scheme and is located at a distance of about 50 km from Ghoom at the Siliguri-Darjeeling road and 130 km from Siliguri. The diversion structure is located just downstream at the confluence of Rammam river with Lodhama Khola near Lodhama village and the power house site is located near village Barbatia, on the right bank of river Rammam.
