Saudi company to build polysilicon plant in Malaysia

The US$1.6 billion plant will be one of Asia's largest.

Project Management & Development Company Co. Ltd will build the polysilicon manufacturing plant in Malaysia's eastern state of Sarawak. It said the project is in line with Sarawak's initiative of promoting green and sustainable energy solutions leading to further development of the state’s industrial base.

The company's Malaysian affiliate, Cosmos Petroleum & Mining Sdn Bhd, will own and operate the plant when it starts production in 2016. Polysilicon is the raw material used to manufacture solar power panels.
