AboitizPower to put up Philippine coal-fired plant

Therma South has received an environmental compliance certificate for the 300 MW coal-fired project in Davao, Philippines.

The project, worth $575.9 million, will lessen the island's dependence on hydro power.

The ECC was secured from the environment management bureau of the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Therma South, a subsidiary of AboitizPower, also intends to secure other necessary permits and clearances for the project, which is expected to be built in 40 months.

The project will employ circulating fluidised bed technology to ensure reduction of sulphur emissions.
