Thai solar, natural gas power plants given green light

Thailand's Board of Investment  has approved 11 projects worth more than 80 billion baht or US$2.589 billion, with five involving production from natural gas and solar.

The country inaugurated its first of planned 15 concentrated solar plants in Lopburi last Decemebr.

Four projects will produce auto parts for eco-cars, while the other two will involve air transport and plywood production.

In the first two months of this year, foreign investment applications in Thailand jumped in value by 92% year-on-year to 82.2 billion baht. The number of applications rose by 31%, reflecting strong confidence in the country, said a BoI source.

Confidence was shaken when last year's flooding shut down seven industrial parks.
