SPML Infra wins INR1,128-crore NTPC battery storage order

The company will build a 250-MW / 1-GWh BESS with grid integration setup.

SPML Infra Limited has secured a INR1,128-crore order from NTPC Limited to develop a one-gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Barauni Thermal Power Station in Bihar, India.

The project covers a 250-megawatts / 1-GWh BESS using 5-megawatt-hour (MWh) DC containers. It also includes a battery management system, thermal management system, 33-kilovolt (kV) panel boards, 220-kV DC and AC cables, and a 220-kV switchyard.

The contract includes 15 years of operations and maintenance, the company said in a LinkedIn post.

Abhinandan Sethi, Managing Director of SPML Infra, described the project as the company’s entry into large-scale grid-connected energy storage.

He added that the system will be developed at NTPC’s thermal power station in line with India’s energy infrastructure requirements.
