Japan and China sign more alternative energy deals

They announced their cooperation in promoting 47 energy saving projects.

Japan and China, among Asia’s leading users of alternative energy, pledge to do more energy saving deals to help mitigate their sputtering economies.

They announced their cooperation in promoting 47 energy saving projects during the recent Sino-Japan Energy Saving and Environment Protection Forum in Tokyo. The 47 projects include an experiment to create a smart community in China, sludge treatment and semiconductor lighting.

Yukio Edano, Japan's Economy, Trade and Industry Minister, said energy saving and the environment fields are engines of trade growth for both countries.

The bilateral forum, which began in 2006, is an important mechanism for dialogues on how to enhance cooperation between China and Japan on energy-saving efforts. A total of 171 deals were signed during past meetings.
