Indonesia's PLN opens power station near Malaysian border

Indonesian power station near Malaysian border.

This best describes PLN's new service station in Krayan subdistrict in Nunukan, East Kalimantan.

But Vickner Sinaga, PLN’s operations director for eastern Indonesia, never mentioned suppllying electricity to Malaysia.

He said that the station, near the border of Serawak, Malaysia, would supplement the electricity supply for the 8,000 or so residents of Krayan.

“We have repaired the power system in Krayan and plan to expand the electricity network for both high voltage and medium voltage so that we can serve all citizens in the subdistrict,” said Vickner.

Power in the area is currently provided by an existing 30 kilowatt micro-hydro power plant and a 250 kilovolt-ampere diesel power station.

PLN also broke ground on the 2x300 kW Pa Ramayo micro-hydro power plant in Krayan. Construction is expected to be complete within 12 months.

PLN previously announced plans planned to build micro-hydro power plants in Lembudud and Long Midang in Krayan to provide electricity for residents using untapped hydropower resources in the area.
