India to build 1,000MW canal-based solar project

Eastern Powers will tap potential canal-based solar power generation in the Indian state of Gujarat.

The Gujarat government is set to sign an MoU with the Mumbai-based company for a 1,000MW canal-based solar project.

A senior government official told the Times of India that the proposed MoU will be signed by the firm with the state energy and petrochemicals department, and Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam.

"This happened in the Charanka Solar Park also. Neither land acquisition costs nor long land acquisition times are required for canal based power projects. So the project is expected to kick off soon," the official added.

The Gujarat government has also lined up a 600MW offshore wind power generation project, which will be developed by Bangalore-based Greenshore Energy.
