Australia opens application for Townsville Region Hydrogen Hub $46.9m grant

Application closes on 27 April 2023 at 5 pm Australian Eastern Standard Time.

The Australian Government has opened applications for up to $46.9m (A$70m) to support the development of a hydrogen hub in the Townsville region.

“The grant opportunity aims to stimulate investment in the development of the emerging Townsville hydrogen sector, and will be open to any eligible consortium with the ability to develop and implement a green hydrogen hub in the Townsville region,” according to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.

The open competitive assessment process will have two stages. First will be an initial expression interest stage in which relative merit and business case of applications will be looked into.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal as part of the second stage.

The grant will support the government's plan to adopt and produce hydrogen to reduce its emissions by 43% by 2030.
