UAE targets 14.2GW renewable energy capacity by 2030

It also aims to be the leading low-carbon hydrogen producer by 2031.

The United Arab Emirates launched its updated energy goals, aiming to more than triple its renewable energy capacity to reach 14.2 gigawatts by 2030.

In a statement, the Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure said, in line with the updated UAE Energy Strategy 2050 objectives, the country will invest around $40.8b (AED150b) to $54.4b (AED200b) by 2030 to ensure that all energy demand will be met amidst sustaining economic growth

“We took on the task of updating the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 to accelerate the energy transition and increase the share of clean energy in our energy mix to become climate neutral by 2050 and help achieve our vision of a sustainable development,” said Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure.

“The strategy outlines a national program to balance meeting the rising energy demand and sustaining natural resources for generations to come. It aims to spur a clean energy boom and achieve a robust energy transition as a lever for the national economy and a key contributor to the country’s GDP,” he added.

Al Mazrouei added that the country aims to be a leading producer and supplier of low-carbon hydrogen by 2031.

Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and COP28 President-Designate, also said that the country will play a vital role in accelerating decarbonisation globally.
