Türkiye’s renewables capacity to reach 38.2 GW in 2035
The country’s annual power generation is expected to reach 213.5 TWh by the same period.
Türkiye’s renewable power capacity is projected to reach 38.2 gigawatts (GW) in 2035, or a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17.1% from 2024 to 2035, according to GlobalData.
In its latest analysis, GlobalData said the country’s annual power generation is expected to reach 213.5 terrawatt-hours, or 8.6% from 2024 to 2035.
Attaurrahman Ojindaram Saibasan, senior power analyst at GlobalData, said the country’s increasing energy demand has been driven by its growing gross domestic product and population growth.
“To overcome the challenge, the country has placed focus on nuclear and renewable power. Within the renewable power segment, solar PV constituted nearly 51.3% of the total renewable power capacity, followed by onshore wind, accounting for 32.9% in 2024,” Saibasan said.
Türkiye aims to quadruple its wind and solar capacity, targeting a goal of 120 GW by 2035. To achieve this, the country eyes up to 8 GW of renewable energy capacity annually, with an investment of $80b.
Broken down, the country eyes at least 2 GW of wind capacity each year through YEKA auctions, which include 1.2 GW of wind and 800 megawatts of solar in the YEKA 2024 auction. Türkiye also targets 5 GW of offshore wind to fuel clean energy development.
