Keppel, PacificLight, and YTL to conduct CCS studies for power sector
The initiative facilitates the study of two power sector CCS pathways.
Three power generation companies will conduct carbon capture and storage (CCS) feasibility studies for the power sector.
In a statement, the Energy Market Authority (EMA) said the companies conducting the study are Keppel’s Infrastructure Division, PacificLight Power and YTL PowerSeraya. Five proposals from these companies have been selected to receive co-funding for the site-specific CCS studies.
This development follows the grant call launched in October 2024, which invited the industry to explore potential power sector CCS solutions.
The grant facilitates the study of two power sector CCS pathways, namely post-combustion carbon capture, and pre-combustion carbon capture.
EMA said the five studies are expected to be completed in 2026. The findings will help EMA and power generation firms to deepend their knowledge and understanding of the power sector CCS pathways, as well as identify infrastructure and site-specific requirements.
“The findings would also provide a useful foundation to conduct more detailed engineering studies in future, such as preliminary Front End Engineering Design (preFEED) and FEED studies, to further assess the feasibility of CCS to decarbonise the power sector,” EMA added.
