Victoria achieves 42% power generation from renewables

The state hosts more than 90 large-scale clean power projects.

Victoria has reported reaching more than 42% of electricity production through renewable energy over the last financial year.

According to the state, this makes Victoria well on track to meet its legislated renewable energy target of 40% by the end of the year.

The state aims for 65% renewable energy generation by 2030 and 95% by 2035. It hosts over 90 large-scale renewable energy projects, adding almost 7 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity to the grid.

There are more than 50 GW of proposed or committed renewable energy projects in Victoria.

Victoria implemented the Development Facilitation Programme to fast-track renewable energy projects. To date, the programme has unlocked almost $5b worth of investment across 18 projects.

Once completed, these projects will collectively generate enough power for around 574,000 households annually, with battery storage capable of meeting evening peak demand for almost a million households.
