PetroGreen Energy unit secures permit for 20 MW battery energy storage project
This will be operational in 2026.
A unit of Philippines-based PetroGreen Energy Corporation has bagged an environmental compliance certificate for its battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Panitan, Capiz.
In a bourse filing, PetroGreen Energy said its EcoSolar Energy Corporation (ESEC) received the certificate for the 20 megawatt project.
This “vested ESEC with the clearance and the related responsibilities for an environmentally compliant development of a 20 MW BESS plant, including associated electro-mechanical equipment and civil works over a 0.6 hectare site.”
PetroGreen Energy Assistant Vice President Yrel Ventura said this development follows other pre-development milestones achieved, such as the local government units’ endorsements in April and June 2025 and the system impact study approval by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines in October 2025.
“All these bring us closer to constructing and operating our Panitan BESS project by the fourth quarter of 2026 to support stability of the Panay sub-grid and hence add energy security for Panay communities,” he said.
