wpd commences operation of first onshore wind farm in Japan

Uses three turbines from Enercon.

German Renewable Developer wpd has begun commercial operation of its first onshore wind project in Japan, the Higashi Izu Furusato Wind Power Plant, meeting its planned timeline and marking a key expansion into the Japanese market.

The 7.48 MW wind farm, located on a mountainous coastal ridge approximately 120 km southwest of Tokyo in Shizuoka Prefecture, was developed through Higashi Izu Wind Power Godo Kaisha, a joint venture between wpd and the GPSS Group.

The project was constructed by Achiha Co., Ltd. using specialized equipment designed to operate in steep and technically challenging terrain.

The wind farm uses three turbines from Enercon.

The electricity generated will be delivered under a corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) to Nomura Real Estate Development via NF Power Services Co., Ltd..

The renewable power will support Nomura Real Estate Development’s new headquarters in Tokyo.
