Energy minister unhappy with state-owned thermal plants

Energy minister Ram Veer Upadhayay criticized state-owned thermal power plants for not reaching production targets.

Presiding over a review meeting, Upadhayay expressed his reservations over the state-owned thermal power plants not meeting the standards of the ones owned by the National Thermal Power Corporation in terms of power production.

According to the Times of India, he told the officials of the thermal power plants to improve the situation or face action. Energy secretary Navneet Sehgal said the incidents of boiler tube leakage, which are increasing, should be checked. He asked the engineers to ensure that a proper transmission system is put in place.

Upadhayay also told the officials to speed up the construction of a chimney in Parischa at the earliest. The minister is likely to visit the site next week.
