India to launch 1,000MW wind auction scheme by late May 2017

Selected projects will sell power to SECI.

The Ministry of Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines of India has announced the upcoming kick-off of a 1,000 MW wind auction scheme, that should be launched by the end of May 2017.

Enerdata reported that the scheme will be open for all obligated entities purchasing wind power for compliance of their non-solar Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO). Selected projects will sell power to the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) under power purchase agreements (PPAs).

In addition, the Memorandum of Agreements (MoAs) for purchase of 1,000 MW of wind power under the first wind auction scheme was also signed between power trader PTC India and distribution companies of Uttar Pradesh (450 MW), Bihar (200 MW), Jharkhand (200 MW), Delhi (100 MW), Odisha and Assam (50 MW each).

"In Chhattisgarh, a 500 MW solar power plant will be developed under the state's solar power project. The project will be developed in two 250 MW phases and will be located in Rajnandgaon," Enerdata said.
