Vietnam votes a final no to building multi-billion dollar nuke plants

Russian and Japanese corporate partners took the blow.

Vietnam's National Assembly finally voted to junk plans to construct two multi-billion dollar nuclear power plants with Russian and Japanese copmanies. The officials said the decision is due to lower energy demand forecasts, ballooning costs of building the plants, and safety concerns.

The supposed Japanese and Russian nuclear plants would have been built in central Ninh Thuan province and would have had a combined capacity of 4,000MW.
