Australia awards RWE contract for 1.1GW Theodore wind farm
Total investment is estimated at around AU$3b.
The Australian government has awarded RWE a contract under capacity investment scheme (CIS) tender 7 for its 1.1GW Theodore onshore wind project in Central Queensland.
Under the CIS framework, the government will underwrite the project through a set revenue floor and ceiling mechanism.
The Theodore Wind Farm is expected to require an investment of about AU$3b.
The proposed project site is located approximately 22 kilometres east of Theodore township, 50 kilometres south-west of Biloela, and 150 kilometres south-west of Gladstone within the Banana Shire Local Government Area in Queensland.
The 1.1GW development is expected to feature up to 170 wind turbines alongside a battery energy storage facility.
Once completed, the wind farm is expected to generate enough electricity to power around 500,000 homes in Queensland.
