India allocates 200th coal block

This reflects efforts to boost local coal production and support energy security.

India has announced the allocation of its 200th coal mine to Singhal Business Private Limited.

In a statement, the Ministry of Coal said the company received the allocation order for the Marwatola–II coal block.

“It reflects the Ministry’s visionary approach—one that seeks not only to enhance domestic coal production but also to rebalance the national energy matrix by reducing dependence on imports and strengthening long-term energy security,” the statement read.

India’s total coal production increased by 3% to 86.24 million tonnes (MT) in May 2025. Production from captive/commercial mines, meanwhile, reached 16.93 MT from 13.83 MT in the same period last year.

Stocks held by coal companies grew 29.18%, reaching 122.69 MT as of end-March.
