Philippines and Sweden explore energy transition cooperation

They discussed offshore wind, solar, AI, and cybersecurity cooperation.

The Philippines and Sweden are exploring cooperation in energy transition and other sectors during a courtesy meeting with the Swedish delegation, Manila’s Department of Finance said.

Philippine Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go said the Philippines aims to attract energy investments that generate employment and support economic competitiveness, adding interest in renewable and clean energy alongside digital technologies, including artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

“We hope to see some installations down the line, and there are already two or three companies involved in these initiatives,” Sweden’s Trade Commissioner Johan Lennefalk said.

Sweden said it is developing fossil-free energy technologies, including floating offshore wind and integrated wind and solar systems, supported by the Swedish Energy Agency.

The discussions also covered manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, food security, electronics, mineral processing, and services as both countries explored broader economic cooperation.
