Senoko Energy and Gentari partner to import hydrogen from Malaysia to Singapore

Senoko Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding with clean energy provider Gentari to explore importing hydrogen gas from Malaysia.
This hydrogen will be integrated into Senoko's gas turbine systems, improving efficiency and reducing emissions.
The 20-year supply agreement, expected to start by 2029, could cut emissions by 18,000 tonnes of CO2 annually in its first phase, with potential future reductions reaching up to 535,000 tonnes.
Senoko aims to be the first in Singapore to use hydrogen for power generation, contributing to the country's 2050 net-zero target.
“Hydrogen has the potential to play a critical role in reducing carbon emissions, and so together, we are taking a bold step towards creating a more sustainable energy landscape and low-carbon future,” Frederik Baerts, president & CEO of Senoko Energy, said.
“This partnership with Senoko Energy is a key step in building a hydrogen backbone for Southeast Asia,” added Michèle Azalbert, chief hydrogen officer at Gentari. “Cross-border infrastructure like this pipeline connects production and demand centres as we accelerate green hydrogen adoption across the region.”
