Singapore centralises power sector’s natural gas procurement and supply
Alan Heng was named CEO of the new entity.
Singapore has formed a new unit called Singapore GasCo that will centralise the procurement and supply of natural gas to the city-state’s power sector.
The Energy Market Authority said in a statement that natural gas, which accounts for around 95% of Singapore’s electricity generation, will continue to be a key player in the city-state’s 2050 net-zero goals.
Singapore GasCo, a fully government-owned entity, is set up to centralise the procurement and supply of gas to power generation companies. This will help in ensuring economies of scale and negotiating for more favourable gas contracting terms, procuring natural gas from diverse sources, and entering into longer-term gas contracts to provide a more stable supply and prices.
Alan Heng has been appointed as Singapore GasCo’s CEO. He has over 37 years of industry experience in the energy sector, including in the natural gas sector as Group CEO of Pavilion Energy until March 2025.
Prior to this, Heng held various senior management positions in planning, operations and marketing for 23 years at ExxonMobil.
