Solar corporate funding down 41% in Q1

Meanwhile, the sector’s venture capital funding surged.

Corporate funding in the solar sector reached $4.8b across 39 deals in the first quarter, reflecting a 41% decline from last year.

According to Mercom Capital Group, funding was up 20% quarter-over-quarter from the $4b in 40 deals in Q4 2024.

The sector’s global venture capital funding, meanwhile, reached $1.4b in 14 deals, a 237% increase from last year. 

Debt financing in Q1 reached $3.5b across 23 deals, a 45% drop compared to the year prior. 

A total of 19 solar corporate M&A transactions were recorded in Q1 2025, which was lower than the 21 transactions in Q1 2024.
Approximately 13.6 gigawatts (GW) of solar projects changed hands in Q1, up from 10.8 GW last year.
