Dongguan Anwell Receives Funds to Build Solar Unit in China

Anwell Technologies subsidiary Dongguan Anwell Digital Machinery has received CNY700m ($108.6m) to build a new thin film solar panel manufacturing unit in Dongguan, China. The company received the loan from the municipal government of Dongguan, which will now become a 19.5% stake holder in Dongguan Anwell. Five years after the investment, the government will have an option to sell its shares in Dongguan Anwell to Anwell at cost plus interest. In addition to this investment, the company has recently received CNY1.2bn ($186.2m) in long-term finance for the second thin film solar panel plant in Dongguan and expansion of Anyang thin film solar panel plant from the municipal governments of both cities. Anwell plans to increase its production capacity to 1.5GW in the next five years.

India's Reliance Power is seeking a loan of INR28bn ($625m) from the US Exim Bank for the construction of a 2,400MW gas-based power plant in Andhra Pradesh, India. The loan is a part of the $5bn deal with Reliance Power for the purchase of US-manufactured equipment for power projects. US Exim Bank president and chairman Fred Hoghberg told the Times of India. The company expects the loan to be disbursed by next month. Besides the $5bn deal with the US Exim Bank, Reliance Power has struck a deal with the Chinese Exim Bank for $12bn to fund power projects.  

Tokyo to Construct a Natural Gas-Fired Power Plant

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to construct a natural gas-fired thermal plant in Tokyo, Japan, amid the nuclear crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi plant. Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara said the plant will be constructed by the local government with the help of private capital including foreign investment, as the capital faces uncertainty over future power supply. Construction of the plant is estimated to cost around JPY50bn ($640m) and will be built and operated by a private sector on a site offered by the local government. The power generated from the plant will be equal to one nuclear plant, reports Dow Jones.
