GWEC appoints new chairman
Michael Hannibal will take over the role for two years.
The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) has appointed Michael Hannibal as the new chairman for two years.
According to GWEC, Hannibal will replace Jonathan Cole following the end of his tenure.
“The industry has been delivering record years of growth and is forecast to keep doing so. Our focus at GWEC will continue to be on accelerating that growth in new markets all over the world,” GWEC Chairman Michael Hannibal said.
Hannibal is a partner at Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and chief commercial officer at Stiesdal Offshore. He has a track record of more than 20 years with the renewable energy business, including more than seven years as CEO Siemens Offshore Wind.
GWEC CEO Ben Backwell welcomed Hannibal to the council, adding it is currently an “exciting time for the wind industry, with emerging markets in APAC, Latin America, Middle East and Africa rapidly developing, and mature markets tackling bottlenecks and accelerating deployment.”
