GE Vernova starts commercial operations for 500 MW heating plant in South Korea
The facility will supply power and steam to 100,000 citizens in the district.
GE Vernova’s Gas Power business has begun commercial operations for the 500 MW Naepo District Heating Plant, generated by GE's H-Class gas combined cycle equipment.
Replacing a formerly planned Solid Refuse Fuel boiler plant the cutting-edge plant in Naepo City, South Korea, will provide 500 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid and the heating supply for an estimated 100,000 Naepo citizens.
GE Vernova equipped the plant with a 7HA.02 gas turbine, combined with a matching H65 generator, an STF-D650 Steam Turbine operating an H35 generator, a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), and a GE Vernova condenser. Its supplementary equipment maintenance services will enable the project to last for 19 years.

“Changing the main energy source of the heat source facility from waste solid fuel (SRF) to liquefied natural gas (LNG) leads to significant improvements in fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and enhanced cost-effectiveness,” Ramesh Singaram, President and CEO of GE Vernova’s Gas Power business in Asia, said.
“Our HA technology has demonstrated industry-leading performance with close to 64% efficiency in combined cycle mode and over 91% efficiency in district heating mode,” Singaram added.
The heating plant continues GE Vernova’s involvement in the integration of HA gas turbine technology to district heating projects throughout South Korea. It also marks a major milestone in promoting sustainability for power generation and heating solutions in South Korea.
