Hong Kong’s energy efficiency improves as EE Index declines, report says
By sector, the agricultural and manufacturing sectors’ energy use fell sharply.
Hong Kong’s energy use exhibited negative spikes as its Energy Efficiency (EE) Index gradually decreased, indicating improvements in overall energy efficiency, according to an APO Productivity Outlook report.
By sector, the agricultural and manufacturing sectors’ energy use fell sharply in several years.
The services sector’s energy use also declined substantially, indicating a steady improvement in its energy efficiency.
Moreover, during the period, carbon dioxide emissions decreased to 33 million tonnes from approximately 40 million tonnes.
Whilst Gross Capital Formation decreased to 16.8% from 27.6%, EE also declined significantly from 53.2% to 25.4%, indicating a consistent improvement in efficiency despite reduced investment.
