Coal dispatch also saw growth last month.

As India pushes to meet its growing energy demand, the Ministry of Coal has reported a 2.49% increase in the country’s coal production, reaching 68.94 million tonnes (MT) in September.

For the cumulative production in fiscal year (FY) 2024-2025, the ministry said coal output reached 453.01MT, up 5.85% from 427.97 MT during the same period in FY 2023-2024.

India also recorded improved coal dispatch in September, which increased 4.35% to 73.37 MT. The cumulative dispatch grew 5.54% to 487.87 MT, the ministry said.

For coal stocks at dispatch, collection, and billing centres, India recorded a 51.07% growth to reach 33.46 MT as of 29 September 2024

The ministry said it is “continuing to enhance coal production and optimising dispatch to meet the country’s increasing energy demands.”

“The upward trajectory in both production and dispatch bolsters energy security and to achieve self-sufficiency in coal supply,” it added.
