Tanjung Bin power plant unaffected by fire at conveyor belt: Malakoff

The incident is not expected to affect its operations as it is undergoing a scheduled outage from 30 March to 9 June 2019.

Malakoff Corporation Berhad’s Tanjung Bin energy power plant (TBE) in Pontian, Johor was unaffected by a fire that occurred on 22 April 2019 at approximately 6 a.m., an announcement revealed.

The isolated incident reportedly involved only the belt-conveyor that carries coal to the power plant and did not affect the 1,000MW power plant itself.

“The Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) was deployed on scene and the fire was contained within one hour,” the firm said, adding that an investigation is still ongoing.

The incident is not expected to affect the operations of TBE as it is undergoing a scheduled outage from 30 March to 9 June 2019.

The fire incident also did not affect the operations of the adjacent 2,100MW Tanjung Bin Power Plant.
