Terra Solar taps Energy China for 3.5 GW plant's EPC
This will accelerate clean energy efforts in Manila.
SPNEC unit Terra Solar Philippines, Inc. (TSPI) has made significant progress on its $4b Terra Solar project with the signing of the engineering, procurement, and construction deal with China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd (Energy China).
In a bourse filing, SPNEC said Energy China is operating in over 140 countries and were involved in the development of projects such as the Three Gorges Dam, the South-toNorth Water Diversion Project, the West-East Power Transmission Project, and the WestEast Gas Pipeline Project.
The Chinese state-owned company will be responsible for the procurement, design, engineering, permitting, manufacturing, testing, logistics, and on-site delivery. It will also provide warranty coverage, and ensure the project’s long-term reliability.
Furthermore, Energy China will develop specialised training programmes for local teams and collaborate with stakeholders to facilitate the integration of the project into the national grid, including the incorporation of the battery energy storage system (BESS).
TSPI is constructing the 3,500-megawatt solar power plant paired with a 4,500-megawatt-hour BESS in Central Luzon. MGEN Renewable Energy Inc., the renewable energy arm of Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGen), holds a controlling stake in SPNEC.
“Through this collaboration for Terra Solar, we aim to accelerate the nation's energy transition journey and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future,” said MGen President and CEO Emmanuel Rubio.
“We welcome the partnership with Energy China and we are confident that we can drive this project to completion, on time and beyond expectation,” said Meralco Chairman and CEO Manuel Pangilinan.
