Akaysha Energy commences construction of $200m Brendale BESS
This will start operation in 2026.
Akaysha Energy has started construction at its $200m Brendale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Queensland.
According to the company, the BESS will add 205 megawatts / 410 megawatt-hours of storage capacity to the National Electricity Market. It will commerce commercial operation in 2026, helping reduce electricity costs and enhance grid stability.
Located on UnityWater’s 3.7-acre site next to the South Pine substation, the project will feature Tesla Megapack technology, whilst the Balance of Plant (BoP) will be delivered by Consolidated Power Projects Australia Pty Ltd (CPP).
The Brendale BESS can store enough energy to power up to 300,000 homes.
“The Brendale BESS is one of four projects under development in the state, and it’s clear that the Queensland energy sector is serious about the transition,” said Paul Curnow, managing director and chief commercial officer at Akaysha Energy.
