Australia allocates $21.2m to increase Queensland’s solar capacity

This will benefit up to 5,500 households.

The Australian Government has granted Queensland a funding of $21.2m to expand the solar capacity of the Local Renewable Energy Zones (LREZ) project that will be established in Caloundra and Townville.

According to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water, this was made under a Federation Funding Agreement and will increase LREZ’s capacity by 10.6 megawatts (MW) to a total of 16.2 MW.

The new funding from the Community Solar Banks programme will benefit up to 5,500 households in Caloundra and Townville.

The Queensland Government has committed $80m to the LREZ projects that will be used to boost renewable energy production, improve grid stability, and ensure reliable energy supply for local communities.
