Consortium to develop 1.5 GW Abu Dhabi solar project
The project is expected to be operational in the third quarter of 2026.
An international consortium composed of EDF Renewables, Korea Western Power Company and Masdar won the award for the development of a 1.5-gigawatt solar project in the United Arab Emirates.
In a statement, Masdar said that the Al Ajban Solar PV project, awarded by the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), is expected to start commercial operations in the third quarter of 2026.

The project could generate power that could meet the demands of 160,000 households across the country and reduce Abu Dhabi's carbon emissions by 2.4 million metric tonnes per year.
EWEC also signed a power purchase agreement with the stakeholders where EWEC will pay only for the net electrical energy supplied by the plant located 70 kilometres northeast of Abu Dhabi.
Once operational, UAE will be home to four of the world’s largest single-site solar power projects.
