IEAD, Envision partner to build 600MW wind farm in Southeast Asia

It is slated to be the largest wind project in the region.

The Impact Energy Asia Development Limited (IEAD) and Envision Group have partnered in building a 600-megawatt (MW) Monsoon Wind project in Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR).

The Monsoon Wind project, expected to be the largest in the region, will start construction this year with a target to begin commercial operation in 2025.

It is expected to generate over 1,700 gigawatt-hour of green energy each year.

The project will also be the first cross-border wind energy project as electricity generated from it will be delivered from Lao PDR to Central Vietnam through the project's dedicated 500-kilovolt transmission line.

It will be located in the Sekong and Attapeu provinces in Southern Lao PDR, where Envision plans to supply 133 units of EN-171 wind turbines with a power rating of 4.51 MW.

The IEAD, through its affiliate, Impact Electrons Siam Company Limited (IES), started developing the wind farm in 2011. In July 2021, the IEAD signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

Meanwhile, Envision also collaborated with IES on IES' development of the Xekong Wind Project. The project created some 1,000MW wind farm on a site adjacent to the Monsoon Project.
