India eyes development of 1GW floating solar plant
The floating solar array would be the world’s largest.
The Indian state of Madhya Pradesh is planning a 1GW floating solar photovoltaic (PV) plant that would be the world’s largest, local media report.
The Times of India cited Manu Shrivastava, the state’s renewable energy prime minister, that they have already done preliminary studies whilst the World Bank is preparing is feasibility report.
Reports added that development costs could total $700m and that works on the project could start in about eight months. Madhya Pradesh would then act as offtaker for 200MW of capacity from the plant.
Currently, the largest floating solar array is a 150MW project in China.
