India launches INR 2.3 crore projects to boost renewable energy deployment

This will support rooftop solar and distributed energy.

India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has launched the INR 2.3 crore Innovative Projects Start-Up Challenge on Rooftop Solar (RTS) and Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) Technologies.

In a statement, the ministry said the initiative will identify and support solutions for India's rooftop solar and distributed energy ecosystem.

The challenge is seeking applications focusing on four key categories to boost renewable energy adoption. These are affordability, resilience, inclusivity, and environmental sustainability.

The challenge welcomes a wide range of startups in green tech, IoT, AI, blockchain, construction, energy hardware, fintech, and waste management.

Selected innovators will compete for a total prize pool of INR 2.3 crore, including INR 1 crore for first prize, INR 50 lakh for second prize, INR 30 lakh for third prize, and 10 consolation prizes of INR 5 lakh each.

The deadline for applications is 20 August, and results will be announced on 10 September.
