India prepares to build offshore wind farms
India is clearing road blocks to its offshore wind farm project.
Though there is huge potential, offshore wind energy is expensive.
Power evacuation is also a problem with no developer willing to lay transmission lines to bring electricity from the installations standing in the sea to onland.
An expert committee has been formed, which identified Rameshwaram, Kanyakumari, Maharashtra, Kerala-Konkan, Gujarat and Rajya Sabha as possible locations.
Minister of New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah said that his ministry had constituted an Offshore Wind Energy Steering Committee to develop offshore wind power in India in a planned manner.
