IPP Northland Power targets 1.2GW of wind power in Taiwan

This is in partnership with Yushan Energy.

Canadian independent power producer Northland Power and Enterprize Energy's subsidiary Yushan Energy have decided to develop 1,200 MW of offshore wind projects in Taiwan, Enerdata reported.

Since 2016, their joint venture has been working on the development of the Hai Long offshore wind project, that will consist of two offshore wind projects rated 700 MW and 500 MW. The first project has already secured all approvals and construction will start on the build out of the project. The second project (500 MW) should enter construction after 2022.

"Earlier in May 2017, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) of Taiwan unveiled an eight-year wind development plan, targeting an installed wind capacity to 4.2 GW, including 1.2 GW of onshore wind capacity and 3 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2025. By this date, Taiwan will phase out nuclear power and aims to raise the share of renewables from the current 4.8% (2016) to 30%," Enerdata said in a report.
