KDDI signs third virtual PPA with J-POWER Group for new wind farm
The wind farm will have an 8,400 kW capacity.
KDDI Corporation has entered into a new virtual Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. and its subsidiary J-Wind Co., Ltd. for the development of an onshore wind farm.
The agreement marks the third virtual PPA between KDDI and the J-POWER Group for onshore wind energy. It follows earlier deals tied to the New Minami Osumi Wind Farm in December 2024 and the Kaminokuni No. 3 Wind Power Plant in March 2025.
Virtual PPAs allow companies to purchase the environmental value of renewable energy without directly using the electricity.
Through its three agreements with the J-POWER Group, KDDI expects to secure environmental value equivalent to roughly 16% of carbon dioxide emissions produced by its nationwide base station operations, advancing its carbon reduction strategy.
J-Wind will build the Iwaki Futago Wind Power Plant in Akita Prefecture with a capacity of 8,400 kW. The environmental value will be supplied to KDDI for 20 years after operations begin.
