Malaysia to release final residential PV quota in September

Malaysia's FIT will be cut by a minimum of 8% next year.

Malaysia will release the final 1.5 MW quota for residential PV eligible for the 2013 feed-in tariff or FIT

The quota will be released in three 500kW phases. The first was opened on 28 August; the next will be on 4 September and the final 500 kW on 11 September.

The Sustainable Energy Development Authority Malaysia (SEDA Malaysia) said all projects approved for the 2013 rate of RM1.1316 (US$0.34) must be completed before yearend.

It warned there will be no more release of any solar PV quota for individuals for 2013 after 11 September because it is not realistic for these individual Feed-In Approvals Holders (FiAHs) to be able to achieve commercial operation of their PV system by yearend.

Projects that fail to become operational before the end of the year will only be eligible for the 2014 rate, which is lower by 8% for individuals. This is equivalent to RM1.0411 (US$0.31) for installs less than or equal to 4 kW. The reduction for commercial installations is 20%.
