Malaysia's PETRONAS taps Siemens for power plant construction

It's slated to be the largest plant in Malaysia.

Malaysia's state-owned petroleum corporation PETRONAS has given an order to Siemens in a consortium with MMC Engineering Services Sdn Bhd for the turnkey construction of the Pengerang Co-generation Plant (PCP).

In a press release, Siemens said the PCP--which is seen to become one of Malaysia's largest and most efficient gas-fired power plants--will be able to produce approximately 1,220 megawatts of power and up to 1,480 tonnes per hour of steam for the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC), PETRONAS’ mega development in Pengerang, Southern Johor, Malaysia.

Here's more from Siemens:

The order requires Siemens to undertake the turnkey construction of the PCP, which comprises four co-generation units along with a longterm maintenance and services contract. Each unit comes with an H class gas turbine, a waste-heat recovery steam generator, a steam turbine, associated mechanical and electrical systems and the instrumentation and control system.

"With the PCP, PETRONAS will not only be supplying reliable steam and power to petrochemicals plant and other facilities in PIC, but we will also be able to supply to the Malaysian Grid in an environmentally-friendly manner,” assured PETRONAS’ Vice President Infrastructure & Utilities, Mr Pramod Kumar Karunakaran.

PCP’s first co-generation unit is expected to go online by mid-2017, and it will also supply power to the National Grid for public consumption. The remaining cogeneration units will supply to PIC’s facilities.
