NSW OKs Liverpool Range Wind Farm expansion

Fewer but more powerful turbines will be installed.

The New South Wales government has approved the modification of the Liverpool Range Wind Farm, expanding its maximum energy generation capacity by 370 megawatts to 1.3 gigawatts.

According to NSW, the number of turbines to be installed will be reduced from 267 to 185 to lessen the visual impacts. Still, these will be more efficient and will each have an increased maximum height from 165 to 215 metres.

Developer Tilt Renewables applied for modification in 2022.

The large-scale wind farm located northeast of Mudgee will generate electricity that can power over 700,000 homes. It is expected to prevent 2.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions during its first full year of operation.

The $2b project will create 550 construction jobs and 47 operational jobs for the Central West economy.
