NTPC’s $ 4.39B project faces delay

NTPC might delay its 4,000 MW super critical thermal power project in Bijapur as farmers demand more compensation for their land.

The state government has fixed US$10,440 per acre for dry  land and US$13,188 for wet land, but the farmers are demanding US$21,980 to – US$26,376 per acre, an official with the state energy department stated.

The super critical thermal project, which is worth US$4.39 billion was designed to be implemented in two stages.

The NTPC had said it would set up three power stations, each with a capacity of 800 mw in the first phase and two TPS with 800 mw each in the second phase. The government has agreed for 5.2 thousand million cubic feet of water allocation from Almatti dam. The  first phase is scheduled to be commissioned by 2012.
