Oman opens invitation for development of wind IPPs

All five wind projects will require over $1.18b for their development.

Oman has initiated the qualification process for the development of five wind projects under the independent power projects (IPP) model.

The wind projects are estimated to have an overall capacity of around 1000 MW at various locations, with operations to commence by 2027.

The projects involved are Dhofar II, with a 114-132 MW capacity; Jaalan Bani Bu Ali with 91-105 MW; Duqm with 234-270 MW; Sadah with 81-99 MW; and Mahoot I with 342-400 MW, with all having a scheduled commercial operation date on 2027. Investments required range around $1.18b (OMR457m).

Nama Power and Water Procurement (PWP) has been assigned for the procurement of new capacity for power and water and the purchase and selling in Oman, aligning with the country’s vision for the diversification of fuel resources and accomplishment of a net-zero target by 2050.

Interested developers can apply from the issuance of the Request for Qualification (RFQ) document.
