Origin OK’s large-scale battery dev’t at Mortlake Power Station

The project is expected to start operations in late 2026.

Origin Energy approved the construction of a 300-megawatt large-scale battery facility at the Mortlake Power Station, investing around (A$400m) in the facility.

In a statement, Origin said the battery station, which will be commissioned in late 2026, will have an output of up to 650 MW-hours.

“With the proliferation of wind and solar farms, particularly in Victoria’s South West Renewable Energy Zone, the Mortlake battery will help keep the grid stable and support more renewable energy coming into the system as the market continues to decarbonise,” said Origin CEO Frank Calabria.
